Wood as regenerative alternative for
fossil fuels is gaining more and more importance.
Benefited by the uncertain price trend in the field
of primary energy (like oil and gas), heating with
wood becomes important again for a wider group of
users. The produced quantity of wood exceeds the
spent one by far. Only approx. 40 million m³ of the
annual increase of 60 million m³ are used
industrially. This means that approx. 25 % of the 32
billion litres of oil spent in Germany every year
could be replaced by wood fuel. The regional
availability of wet wood shavings and moist wood
chips guarantees a safe and independent supply with
fuel. Wood reduces the dependence on fossil raw
material, transfers the added value in the region
and thus offers an additional lucrative source of
income for farmers and forestry owners as well as
for sawmills. So wood pellets and dried wood
shavings are fuels pointing to the future.
Generally, high-quality drying of the initial
product is necessary for producing wood pellets and
chips. Forest-fresh wood can have a water content of
40 % to 60 %. Through drying to a water content of
10 % to 12 %, the calorific value of approx. 2
kWh/kg is increased to approx. 4.5 kWh/kg. Thus
ideal conditions for direct firing with a simple
plant system or an optimum ability of pelletizing
for producing high-quality wood pellets are achieved.

The STELA drying system
is a highly efficient and individually adaptable
modular system to dry wood shavings and wood chips
with low-caloric heat. The drying aims at increasing
the calorific value and creating ideal general
conditions for the direct firing of wood chips
and the processing of wood shavings to
high-quality wood pellets.
The wood shavings or chips from woodworking are
directly fed into the drier by conveying systems.
The product is placed onto the drying belt lying
underneath by means of a feeding hopper and a
distribution unit and is distributed evenly by means
of a dosing screw. The product layer is adapted to
the specific drying parameters of the product by a
height adjustment and brought into the dryer tunnel.
A hot airflow ventilates the product layer and dries
the wet product continuously. This kind of
convective drying treats the product with extreme
care, as it is heated up only insignificantly
primarily during the first drying step.

The materials for the
STELA belt drier systems reach from galvanized steel
up to special steel, according to the specific
customers' requirements with regard to installation
etc. The STELA belt drier system distinguish
themselves by best accessibility of the
product-carrying assembly groups and measuring
devices in and at the drier, by extensive doors and
inspection windows and offer the user optimum
cleaning and maintenance possibilities for a
trouble-free operation.
Having supplied and installed
a huge number of STELA belt drying systems, the
company Laxhuber can look back on decades of
know-how in this field and thus can place proven
plant technology at the customer's disposal. The
modular construction of the drying systems allow
individual adaptations without extra cost. Plant
designs with a throughput rate of up to 10 t of wet
product per hour and more can be designed. |
